Between 15–17 April, Sofia hosted the Living-in.EU Digital Assembly 2026 and the Eurocities Digital Forum 2026, organised by the Sofia Municipality. The events brought together mayors, representatives of the European Commission, researchers, and experts from leading European cities, positioning Sofia at the heart of the European dialogue on digital transformation and sustainable urban development.

Within this high-level context, the DataTwin project was presented during a visit of international delegates to the GATE Institute, highlighting its role in advancing data-driven urban governance through the integration of digital twin technologies and data spaces.

The presentation of DataTwin was part of a broader showcase of GATE’s work in the fields of data spaces and digital twins, including initiatives such as the Common European Mobility Data Space (deployEMDS) and InnovationAmp, which support municipalities in their digital transformation journeys.

During the demonstration session, participants explored practical applications of these concepts through interactive visualisations and real-world use cases. The showcased technologies illustrated how integrated data environments can support urban planning, energy efficiency, and mobility management, while enabling evidence-based policy decisions.

The participation of DataTwin in the Eurocities Digital Forum 2026 underlines the project’s contribution to the European smart city ecosystem and its potential to support cities in achieving scalable, interoperable, and citizen-centric digital solutions.
