On 20 October 2026, the DataTwin project hosted a targeted seminar entitled “Regulatory Framework and Legal Challenges for Data Spaces”, bringing together researchers from GATE Institute and representatives of the wider data ecosystem.

The seminar aimed to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen collaboration between research organisations, public institutions, and businesses by addressing the European regulatory landscape for data access, governance, and sharing.

The seminar was led by Ivo Emanuilov, Head of the Experimental Regulations Lab, who presented key EU regulations, including the Data Governance Act, Data Act, GDPR, AI Act, and Digital Services Act (DSA), highlighting their implications for developing and operating secure and trustworthy data spaces. Particular attention was given to transparency, information traceability, and researchers' access to online platform data.

A practical case study illustrated the legal and regulatory challenges associated with the dissemination of digital content across different platforms and the use of AI technologies.

During the concluding discussion, participants explored legal and organisational barriers to data sharing and opportunities for developing joint initiatives involving research institutions, public authorities, and industry stakeholders.

Through targeted knowledge-sharing activities, DataTwin contributes to bridging the gap between research and industry, promoting responsible data use, knowledge transfer, and the development of a sustainable ecosystem for digital innovation.
